Boulder, Colorado, March 6, 2018 - Automox, a global provider of patch management and endpoint protection solutions, today announced a $2.0 million investment round to accelerate product development, marketing, and sales, and to expand its OEM program. The round was led by Boulder-based Blue Note Ventures with participation from key security visionaries and operators; Ron Gula, founder and former CEO of Tenable, Art Coviello, former executive chairman of RSA, Tim Belcher, former CTO of RSA, Mike Viscuso, co-founder of Carbon Black, Roger Thornton, CTO of AlienVault, and Tom Noonan, founder and former CEO of Internet Security Systems and JouleX security.

Automox’s cloud-native platform is used by companies that need more control and visibility into their client and server infrastructures, which are increasingly multi-OS (Window, Mac, and Linux), geographically-dispersed, and running a broad array of corporate and third party software. Having real-time access to the configuration and patch status of every endpoint, along with the ability to automate patch execution and policy enforcement, enables IT managers and system administrators to dramatically reduce vulnerabilities and easily meet and maintain their corporate security standards.

“Poor patch management and misconfigured endpoints represent 80 percent of a company’s attack surface, yet both are preventable,” said Jay Prassl, Automox founder and CEO. “The breadth of security experts supporting Automox reflects the industry’s pent up demand for a single platform of record for securing today’s digital infrastructures. Our mission is to give IT Managers a complete and intelligent view of their endpoint vulnerability, and the means to automate patch deployment and configuration changes.”

The company’s unique technology bridges the gaps between threat detection, exposure assessment, and solution deployment, a legacy challenge that has plagued IT professionals for decades.

“It is incredibly rare to see a solution that addresses an absolute core and significant problem that all enterprises face, and does so with elegance and simplicity,” said Tim Belcher. “Even more unique is for such a solution to be delivered in a cost effective manner that simply works.”

The number of cyber security risks are rapidly outpacing IT managers’ and system administrators’ ability to keep up. Any endpoint or third party software that uses the internet for communication, stores or retrieves data, or connects to other computers, is vulnerable to be hacked if not patched or configured correctly.

“There isn’t an airline, university, hospital, bank, or government that isn’t laser-focused on cyber security right now,” stated Chris Marks, founder and managing partner of Blue Note Ventures. “As corporate and consumer demand for information security continues to escalate, those accountable for that security will need tools and technology that help them respond faster and scale protection. Automox is poised to become the endpoint protection platform of record behind the most secure companies in the world, and we’re excited to invest in their future.”

The company’s base of mid-market and enterprise customers grew tenfold in 2017, with the majority of growth coming from software, healthcare, finance, and education industries. Revenue from these industries also increased significantly, driven by heightened demand for security and protection among large, remote workforces vulnerable to data breaches.

"Automox's solution enhances the cyber hygiene of any size organization through patching desktop and server operating systems and denying hackers the vulnerabilities they can use to invade a company’s network," said Ron Gula. "Automox also operates at cloud scale making it a great solution to protect tens of thousands of systems or just a few."

Automox customers include consumer brands like Dollar Shave Club, Hootsuite, Quicken, and Gaia, as well as healthcare and technology providers such as Thermo Fisher Scientific and NTT Data Services. IT Managers and SysAdmins can test the software deployment features with a free Automox trial.
