Steph Rizzuto:Hi everyone, welcome to our latest episode of Product Talk. I'm your host, Steph Rizzuto, part of the product management team here at Automox. I have a very special guest this month—our newest member of the Product Team, Josh Roland. Josh, why don't you go ahead and introduce yourself? People will be seeing you on this podcast more often, so let’s get to know you!
Josh Roland: Thanks so much, Steph. It's truly an honor to be here. I've been in this industry for quite a while now, both in product and in the security and IT space. I joined Automox in mid-January, so I’ve got a couple of months under my belt. It’s been fantastic working with you, Emily, and the rest of the team.
It’s such an exciting time for Automox. We're rolling out some really cool features, getting great feedback from customers, and building velocity with some high-value functionality—things that automate workflows, make life easier, and provide the tools our customers need to manage their endpoints.
Steph Rizzuto: Absolutely. And that’s actually why we’re doing something a little different this episode. Since we’re shipping so much functionality over the next month, I thought it’d be cool to highlight some of what’s coming. It’s a quick peek for current customers—and for those who aren’t yet, a look at why you might want to sign up!
Josh Roland: Exactly. A lot of this stuff is already halfway out the door or about to launch. We want people to start using it, testing it, giving us feedback—both what’s working and what could use improvement. Product is always a work in progress. We’d love to hear from everyone: where we can grow, what to keep, and what to rethink. Your feedback is invaluable.
Steph Rizzuto: Totally. Iteration is a huge focus for us—shipping features quickly, then following up to improve them based on how they're used. That allows us to pivot if needed. One of the first features we’ll talk about is one that’s close to both of us: the Automox Tray.
We’re revamping our end-user notification system. We’re replacing it with transient notifications and a new tray interface, while also moving to a deadline-based approach instead of just deferrals. This is just the beginning of something much bigger—eventually, it’ll support things like a self-service catalog. Josh, you joined midway through this project. Want to share what stood out to you?
Josh Roland: Sure! So the tray is basically a lightweight application that runs on all endpoints and becomes the user-facing interface. One of the biggest challenges with endpoint management is keeping machines secure without disrupting the user. We’ve all gotten those complaints—"Why did my machine update during a meeting?"—or worse, hearing from your CISO about compliance issues.
This tray allows us to strike that balance. It gives end users visibility into what’s happening, and even control within certain limits. They can delay an update to a more convenient time, and the tray communicates everything clearly. It’s branded, trusted, and gives users clear expectations—how much time they have, what’s coming, and what’s required.
Steph, what other customer pain points does this tray address?
Steph Rizzuto: A big one is the unexpected reboot. Maybe they had Do Not Disturb on and missed our old notification. Or they saw the alert but weren’t ready to reboot—and now it’s gone. The tray gives control back to the user, within the parameters the org sets. It really lets each org define the right balance between security risk and user experience.
But let’s keep going—there’s more to cover! Another cool thing is the update to our Device Details page. There’s a full redesign and tons of new data points available.
Josh Roland: Right, it’s huge. Our agent already sits on all endpoints, which means we have access to a lot of valuable data. And every customer has different needs for that data—hardware info, OS versions, installed applications, even things like battery life.
What we’re doing is giving people real-time visibility and insights into their devices. And this sets the foundation for better reporting and analytics, which—spoiler alert—is another area we’re investing in heavily.
Steph Rizzuto: Yep, let’s talk about that. We’ve heard loud and clear that reporting is something customers want more of. So we’re launching new analytics—not just static reports, but tools to help you prove the value of Automox.
Josh Roland: Exactly. Whether you're reporting to auditors or your executive team, you need to show that your endpoints are secure and compliant. Our new analytics will help with things like coverage, compliance, remediation needs, and visibility into your fleet.
And in the future, we’ll combine that with other tools—like the tray and remote control—to create a more powerful, integrated experience.
Steph Rizzuto: Speaking of remote control, we’ve got a big upgrade coming there too. Right now, we have a tool that meets basic use cases. But this new version includes file transfer, multi-monitor support, live chat, and attended/unattended sessions. It’s robust enough to replace standalone tools you may be paying for today.
Josh Roland: This really speaks to tool consolidation—getting more value out of what you already use. And when you start connecting all the dots—more device data, improved user communication, better remote control, and actionable analytics—it paints an exciting future. I’m thrilled to have joined Automox at such a pivotal time.
Steph Rizzuto: We’re thrilled to have you, Josh! And thanks everyone for tuning in. That’s all we’ve got for this episode of Product Talk. We’ll see you next month!
Josh Roland: Truly a pleasure, everyone.
